Week-long celebration of data center prowess also features the F1 Night Time Grand Prix

Singapore, a technology hub for the Asia Pacific region, is hosting Singapore Data Center Week (SDCW) in September to celebrate the prowess of the local data center industry.

The week of events forms part of the SG50 celebrations of the state’s anniversary, and culminates in one of Asia’s largest sporting events, the Singapore F1 Night Time Grand Prix, but the main focus is on data center activity.

Regarded by many as the gateway to Asia’s business and technology scene, Singapore has become the regional data center hub of choice and home to heavyweights such as Microsoft, Facebook and Google, as well as a significant proportion of the world’s most important financial institutions.

Its attractiveness as a data center hub is further enhanced with the growing strength of ASEAN – a group of countries formed to promote economic cooperation and regional stability, where Singapore has been instrumental in opening up the data center for the wider region. The latest forecast indicates that the market for data center technology and services will be more than USD$12 billion by 2020.

The SDCW calendar includes:

  • Live Data Center Tours
  • Asia Pacific Data Center Awards Ceremony
  • DCD Converged (2 day conference/2000+ attendees)
  • Evening Networking Functions
  • Mission Critical Training Programme
  • The Singapore F1 Grand Prix

Supported by many of the region’s trade and professional bodies including the IDA, the WDA, ISACA, Asia Cloud Computing Association, SITF and the Building & Construction Authority, the week of events is designed to promote Singapore as a tech leader.

“We are building on the success of last year’s event which attracted a large audience of senior IT professionals from outside Singapore itself,” said Vincent Liew, general manager ofDatacenterDynamics for Asia Pacific. “Based on its success we have been overwhelmed with support, notably from the Infocomm Development Agency that has been so instrumental in putting Singapore on the data center map. Having the Grand Prix on at the end of the week is really capturing people’s imagination.”
