Telstra, Ericsson and Ciena demonstrate world-first secure encryption solution
Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) and Telstra successfully demonstrated Ciena’s (NYSE: CIEN) new WaveLogic Encryption solution at 200Gbps speed on the busy Inter-capital Melbourne- Canberra-Sydney route. With both enterprise and consumers accessing increasing amounts of data from cloud
services, the ability to offer secure transport at high speeds is integral for service providers.
For the first time, the trial with Telstra, Ericsson and Ciena demonstrated the capabilities of this in-flight coherent optical encryption solution for high-capacity infrastructure environments. The solution effectively provides business the assurance that data is secure and protected as
it leaves the private cloud and traverses across networks.
David Robertson, Director, Transport and Routing Engineering, at Telstra, says: “We are committed to providing the best possible experience to our customers, which includes data protection and security. Our world-first demonstration of the solution protects data whilst being transmitted at high speeds from one point to another. Proving the functionality of this new encryption technology is important for Telstra to offer this additional service to our enterprise customers who need extra security levels. This programmable solution provides the option of self-managed encryption and Telstra-managed encryption. This alleviates our customers having to manage and pay for developing this service themselves.”
Francois Locoh-Donou, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Ciena, says: “Businesses today recognize the importance of securing data not only inside the enterprise, but also as it leaves the private cloud and traverses across the network, without adding latency or sacrificing the end user experience. Ciena’s WaveLogic Encryption solution is the first solution in the industry with the encryption algorithm embedded inside the coherent application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC).”
Emilio Romeo, Head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand, says: “Ericsson systems integration expertise ensures the Ciena equipment is optimized and supported across Telstra’s production environment. To achieve this, thorough tests were first carried-out in Ericsson’s optical test lab in Port Melbourne to warrant seamless integration of Ciena’s equipment into Telstra’s production network.”
