PGEON locations to facilitate convenient pick up of online shopping items
EasyParcel Sdn Bhd is making it easier for their customers to send and receive parcels by partnering with Bison Consolidated Bhd to use their myNEWS.com outlets as parcel collection and drop off points. The new service called PGEON is available at all 320 myNEWS.com outlets nationwide.
According to Dang Tai Luk, executive director cum CEO of Bison, online retailers’ success depends on how they retain their customers and logistics plays a large part in that. The last mile delivery is often fraught with difficulties as repeated attempts have to be made to deliver items if the customer is not present.
“myNEWS.com outlets are open late, some of them are open 24 hours and they are open 365 days of the year,” said Dang. This gives customers plenty of opportunity to collect their parcels. Dang also added that the myNEWS.com stores were advantageously placed, which meant that customers would be able to get to the outlets easily.
Bison also plans to add 70 new stores in 2017, which means that customers will have more options when it comes to a PGEON location.
Dang also said that myNEWS.com staff are well practiced in delivering consumer services and that the PGEON service was just another type of consumer service. “We have been working with EasyParcel to train the staff in this new service and it is an ongoing process,” he explained. The myNEWS.com point of sale terminals were also upgraded with the necessary software to scan and process the parcels that are received at the outlets. This software communicates with EasyParcel’s backend systems so that customers will be able to track the parcels from the time it’s picked up to when it’s delivered.
The PGEON service is limited to A4 sized boxes by volume and 5kg packages by weight. PGEON services has also engaged a third party insurance provider to insure the parcels.
“The Easy Parcel platform handles over 1500 parcels a day,” said Clarence Leong, CEO of EasyParcel. During the near one month long trial period, approximately 1000 parcels used the PGEON service, demonstrating the need for and the convenience of this service.
Leong added that the need to deliver and receive items quickly – ‘on time’ or ‘same day delivery’ – is the main compelling reason for EasyParcel to initiate the partnership with myNEWS.com.
“EasyParcel continuously strives to push the boundaries in changing the conventional ways of logistics support, so that our consumers benefit more from their eCommerce purchases. We want to enable the mailing of their parcels with minimum stress or worries, allowing more flexibility for consumers to manage their deliveries. More often than not, consumers are not home while the delivery is being delivered. This is the main compelling reason for EasyParcel to initiate the partnership with myNEWS.com” he said.
EasyParcel was launched by Exabytes in 2014. It is Malaysia’s first integrated logistics service platform that connects logistics and shipping service suppliers such as Poslaju, Skynet, Airpax, Nationwide and DHL into a single integrated eCommerce platform, to businesses and consumers.
