NEC reinforces its cyber security business with the launch of the Cyber Security Factory in Singapore
NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced the official launch of the Cyber Security Factory in Singapore as the latest addition to its global portfolio of security operation centres.
In 2014, NEC established its first Cyber Security Factory in Japan as a specialized unit dedicated to countering cyber threats and attacks. It has provided customers in the country with a wide range of services, including round-the-clock professional surveillance of networks and websites, forensic service for investigating malware sources and information leakage, and team-based hands-on training for security professionals.
The newly opened Cyber Security Factory in Singapore will collaborate with NEC’s Security Operations Centres located in strategic parts of the world including Japan, with an aim to provide an inter-connected network to share intelligence on cyber threats and deliver 24/7 security to customers.
NEC is already working with the Singapore government to strengthen the country’s preparedness in combating the latest cyber threats. In particular, NEC and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) launched the Strategic Attachment and Training (STRAT) Programme to groom the next generation of homegrown IT cyber security experts (*).
“The cyber security industry needs to grow and innovate to ensure a constant flow of high quality research and development to manage new and evolving cyber threats. The establishment of the Cyber Security Factory demonstrates how a global technology company such as NEC has anchored its advanced capabilities and experts in Singapore. Facilities such as the Cyber Security Factory will go a long way in helping businesses better manage cybersecurity challenges. We hope it will inspire more companies to do the same to enhance the cyber security landscape,” said Mr David Koh, Chief Executive, Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, who was Guest-of-Honour at the Cyber Security Factory launch event held on 26 January in Singapore.
“The launch of the Cyber Security Factory in Singapore is an important milestone for NEC. We work with customers to safely secure their information systems and are the first line of defense against malicious cyber attacks which can cause severe damage to reputation and loss of private data, information and/or revenue. The launch is a timely addition to our suite of public safety solutions, which have been chosen by governments and enterprises to safeguard citizens and their properties more effectively to create safer cities and societies,” said Tan Boon Chin, Managing Director, Global Safety Division, NEC Corporation.
