MPay Systems Berhad, launched the MRCA Ringgit Rewards Mastercard Card, in collaboration with Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) and Mastercard, in conjunction with the Opening Ceremony of Malaysia International Retail & Franchise (MIRF) Exhibition, at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

The launch was officiated by Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives, and Consumerism (KPDNKK), YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah bin Zainudin alongside MPay Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Chew Chee Seng, Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) President, Dato’ Garry Chua and Mastercard Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Mr Perry Ong.

The MPay Mastercard Prepaid Card in July 2016 has enabled MPay to package an end-to-end payment ecosystem for the community at large, providing a range of uses from a general purpose reloadable card, travel card, gift card, salary card and more. This has also paved the way for more innovative propositions, to incorporate loyalty solutions, for the benefit of retailers, who are looking to maximise business opportunities.

“Along with our preferred partner Mastercard, we are now pleased to introduce the MRCA Ringgit Rewards Card, a Mastercard prepaid card, which will allow our customers’ to load a desired amount, which can then be used in lieu of cash at participating MRCA outlets and received purchase benefits such as immediate discounts or cash back. The accumulated cash back earned can be used to redeem rewards or can be utilised for their next purchase,” said Dato’ Chew.

“The MRCA Ringgit Rewards Mastercard Card will offer exciting incentives, loyalty points, customised promotions or cash back, amongst others which is designed to specially enhance the customers’ overall shopping experience with MRCA members,” added Dato’ Chew.

Being a Mastercard Card, the MRCA Ringgit Rewards Card is versatile, convenient and accepted at all domestic and millions of retail locations worldwide through the Mastercard acceptance network.

“Consumers today seek the best value without having to compromise convenience and security. The MRCA Ringgit Rewards Mastercard Card delivers precisely that – seamless and secure payments coupled with exclusive rewards and benefits for Mastercard cardholders. Our 5-year partnership with MRCA underscores our commitment to provide consumers more ways to pay, and we look forward to delivering greater value through MRCA’s extensive network of retail chain operators and franchisors,” said Mr Perry Ong, Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Mastercard.

Consumers who make contactless payments using their Mastercard card at participating MRCA outlets will receive a discount of up to 20 percent on their purchases. The participating outlets cover a variety of retail categories from eyewear, beauty, to food and beverage with merchants – Focus Point, Clara International, Chakri Palace, Sanoook, Rainforest Bistro and Cafe, MBG Fruits and Nelson’s, with many others coming on board soon. MRCA has an established network of more than 400 members which include leading retail chain store operators as well as franchisors, covering more than 25,000 outlets throughout Malaysia.

To register and activate the card, the cardholder needs to download MPay Wallet App and register for an MPay Balance Account by entering personal details and setting up a 6-digit pin which will be used to access the account and for authorising transactions. The cardholder would then need to enrol the MRCA Ringgit Rewards Mastercard Card into the wallet by taking a photo of his Malaysian identity card (NRIC) or passport (non-Malaysian) and key in the card details. Once completed, the cardholder can top up, check balances on their MRCA Ringgit Rewards Mastercard Card with the app and also withdraw cash at ATMs by using the card.
