During an announcement to expand presence and services in the region, EDAG Malaysia’s Managing Director Thomas Foeller had described cars as increasingly becoming ‘computers on wheels.’
This provides impetus for the German-based engineering company’s effort to expand their capabilities and capacity in electrics and electronics (EE). This development also sees EDAG Group conducting proof of concept (POC) vehicles in controlled settings, so as to test the viability of these autonomous driving technologies and its emerging use cases in real-life environments.
Simultaneously, it hopes to research and discover answers for efficient, effective, safe, and secure networked & automated driving functions, networking and data exchange, human-machine communication, and more.
The EDAG Citybot is one such technology, and it is currently being trialled on a small-scale basis in Frankfurt, Germany.
Scheduled to run between 2021 till May 2024, the project is based on a Campus FreeCity concept which aims to make urban mobility more connected, efficient and sustainable.
This ‘living laboratory’ trial is researching the potential solutions for inner-city traffic challenges, as well as potential development of the transport technology for passengers, and goods.
Simultaneously, it hopes to research and discover answers for efficient, effective, safe, and secure networked & automated driving functions, networking and data exchange, human-machine communication, and more.
EDAG Malaysia currently functions as a global delivery site for industry projects. “We have no sales, and no marketing here. We built up this global services delivery hub to work on the same level with German-based engineers.
“This is so, we can support big projects which come from Germany. However in the future, we also want to work with local companies here, and new projects,” Thomas said, adding that EDAG Malaysia works on industry projects that contribute towards sustainable and connected mobility.
