iPhone 5 – It Just Keeps Getting Better

Looking through the iPhone history, Phil Schiller said “what an incredible breakthrough this was. (for Apple)” Indeed it was so much risk taking that Steve Jobs had led the team during those testing times of year 2005 to 2007, when Apple was about to make a giant leap into a greatness, before becoming the most valuable company in the world by 2012 – by the end of 2010, Apple sold ninety million iPhones.

iPhone 5 is now official yet again. “Each year we set a new bar with a new iPhone, and we’re going to do that again today,” said Schiller. Made entirely out of glass and aluminum and available in black and white …”It’s an absolute jewel,” Schiller added.

It is by far the thinnest phone ever; 7.6mm thick. It is also world’s thinnest; 112 grams — 20% lighter than 4S. iPhone 5 also supports 44% more color saturation than iPhone 4S.

And size does matter. The new screen is a 4-inch display, pixels 1136 x 640.

Touch sensors are now built into the display itself. 30% thinner as a result, also makes display less prone to glare.

One good thing to hear from Schiller was that all software works just as before.

Ultra Fast Wireless Technology

It is called Ultrafast Wireless, the underlying technology is LTE – yes, finally. LTE is considered to be the most complicated networking specification to date and iPhone 5 supports it via single chip for voice and data, single radio chip, and a “dynamic antenna”.

New Chip, the A6

“Every aspect of iPhone 5 has been updated,” said Schiller. The A6 chip is two times faster than A5 and 22% smaller.

This improvement enlightens the gaming experience further. For instance, Real Racing 3 by EA Studios now supports working rear-view mirrors and reflections make it easier to play — you can actually see what’s going on around you.

“You can now bump the car and have it affect the race time,” said Rob Murray, Executive producer for EA Studios.

Longer Battery Life

The battery life is now 8 hrs 3G talktime, 3G browsing. 8hrs LTE browsing, 10 hrs Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hrs video, 40 hours Music. 225 hrs of standby – simply amazing.

iSight – New Camera

The new camera is called iSight. It is a 8 megapixel sensor, 3264×2448 resolution w/backside illumination, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, f2.4 aperture and is 25% smaller.

It supports “sapphire crystal” and “precision lens alignment.

And the front-facing camera is finally 720p – yup!

iOS6 – All Set for iPhone 5

The 3D maps navigation can be dynamically adjusted and comes with flyover effect that equals video game-level 3D graphics.

Interaction with Facebook is much better now via Siri.

And it supports full screen mode in Safari.

“iOS6 has more than 200 new features in iOS 6,” said Scott Forstall.
