Epson Malaysia Empowers Local Start-Up Printcious To Diversify Its Business And Reach New Markets

Epson enables Malaysian entrepreneur Vincent Tong to run a personalised gift printing business through the use of the F6070 Dye-Sublimation printer and the Epson F2000 Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printer.

Epson, the world leader in digital imaging and printing solutions, has enabled Printcious, a Malaysian-based premier gift printing service provider, to run its personalised gift printing business by providing it with Epson’s range of textile & garment printers.

Utilising specialised Dye-Sublimation printers supplied by Epson Malaysia, Printcious – derived from the words ‘Print’ and ‘Precious’ – is now able to offer customers a way to personalise gifts they choose by printing special wording and pictures onto a range of materials as gifts for loved ones as well as for corporate gift-giving occasions.

These include T-shirts, puzzles, phone cases, cushions, mousepads, ceramic tiles, mugs, and keychains that are suitable for occasions such as birthdays, weddings, graduation ceremonies, anniversaries and even corporate events, such as annual dinners and product launches.

Said Vincent Tong, Printcious’ founder and managing director, “How many times have we all received photo frames or mugs as gifts that are nice in themselves but don’t move us?” “Also, these gifts can be quite expensive and shoppers who shop for gifts often waste a lot of time just looking for the right personalised gifts because it’s not easy finding the right ones.”

The personalised do-it-yourself (DIY) premium gift printing market is still very nascent and has untapped potential. But in order to make the business successful, the printing needs not only to be of extremely high-quality but also to be able to directly print onto garments and ceramic surfaces, and to do all this in a fast, fuss-free manner.

These are the very reasons why Printcious turned to Epson, as it is able to provide a range of printers that can meet these criteria. The two printers Printcious has invested in are the Epson SureColor F6070 Dye-Sublimation printer and the Epson SureColor F2000 Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printer.

Dye-Sublimation printers are specialised devices that are used to produce high photo quality colour artwork that can be transferred onto polyester and polymer-coated substrates, as well as onto textiles and gift items such as mugs, wooden plaques, plastics etc.

Both the Epson SureColor F6070 Dye-Sublimation and SureColor F2000 DTG printers use Epson’s proprietary technology known as Micro Piezo printheads, which eject droplets of ink via mechanical pressure. Unlike thermal inkjet systems, Micro Piezo systems does not use heat, making it compatible with a far wider variety of inks and mediums. They are also highly durable while offering fast printing speeds.

By precisely controlling the volume of ink contained in each droplet of ink, Epson Micro Piezo printers not only generate virtually no wasted ink, they also ensure that sharp, rich and virtually grain-free images are rendered at all times.

“I chose the SureColor F6070 Dye-Sublimation printer as it allowed me to print on materials such as polyester, ceramics and coated surfaces. The SureColor F2000 DTG printer can print on non-white cotton materials. Both these printers allowed me to do exactly what Printcious needed to do,” explained Tong.

Venturing abroad

Printcious’ business model is simple. For individuals, there is an online design tool at, which users can log onto in order to choose a gift, upload personal photos and text, and personalise their gifts immediately. For a small fee, this can be easily done. Corporations that like to order in bulk , on the other hand, can easily do so by contacting Printcious directly.

Being a Web-based business, Printcious’ business model can be easily replicated in other countries such as Singapore and Philippines, and that is exactly what it plans to do in the coming years. The key to Printcious’ successful business expansion lies in using Epson’s Dye-Sublimation and DTG printers in order to produce consistent, high quality printed merchandise.

With Epson’s Dye-Sublimation printers, Printcious can not only produce high quality printing but also have the ability to rapidly print personalised gifts, which is a huge advantage for Printcious as it can take on corporate clients, who often require bulk gift printing in the fastest time possible.

“Besides these benefits we are also very happy with the technical support given to us by Epson. As we are not technical people, after-sales support is crucial for us as we can’t afford any downtime. And I’m glad to report that Epson has exceeded our expectations.

“If there is one thing I’ve learnt as an entrepreneur starting up Printcious is this: As a valued partner, Epson has empowered and enabled me to build a successful business by marrying its great products with my great ideas. With this partnership, I’m confident that Printcious can exceed all my customers’ expectations in the DIY personalised print marketplace.”
