Dimension Data supports greenfield project with transformational IT infrastructure

A manufacturer and supplier of raw materials essential for iron and steel production in Malaysia, has chosen Dimension Data to build a customised IT framework to support its greenfield project operations and its changing business needs.

Annually, the manufacturer produces approximately 180,000 tonnes of raw materials for the local and international markets. Understanding the importance of investing in an IT solution capable of maintaining the plant’s operational efficiency and performance, while assuring an environmentally sustainable operation, the manufacturer decided to actively seek for a reliable and experienced IT partner. After in-depth consideration, Dimension Data was selected to help them on their transformational journey.

With limited skilled IT manpower, the client needed a unified system that would link all its operations and employees through a centrally managed network environment. This integrated system will facilitate a highly efficient communications and connectivity platform for improved operations, as well as for ease of operation and maintenance. Since the implementation, the client has restructured its IT team to focus on its core business rather than on technology. The upgrade has also generated 20 percent savings in operating cost while its performance level improved by a significant 30 percent.

“Investing in building an IT infrastructure was the best solution for us as it has effectively helped us to manage our resources and keeping us competitive,” says the company spokesperson. “During the early phase of this project, Dimension Data was quick to provide us with sound counsel and guidance to address the IT issues we faced. Dimension Data was the obvious choice for this project given their strong track record and experience.”

“The drive for operational excellence and continuous improvement in the manufacturing industry will continue to position IT as a significant contributing variable in achieving these business goals,” said Henrick Choo, Managing Director at Dimension Data Malaysia. “Manufacturers are struggling to deal with business demands, limited resources and tight budget. We are pleased that our solutions and consultants were able to effectively address our client’s IT goals and business objectives.”
