Combating COVID-19 Through ICT and Digital Development

YB Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, participated in the Online Opening Ceremony of ASEAN-China Year of Digital Economy Cooperation, which was held via video conferencing. This was the first appearance by YB Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin at ASEAN platform since he took office as the Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia.

His Excellency Dr. Thansamay Kommasith, Minister of Post and Telecommunications of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, as ADGMIN Chair (the ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting Chair), congratulated China on the Opening Ceremony during his opening remarks on behalf of ADGMIN.

ASEAN Member States Ministers also expressed appreciation to the Government of China for the excellent arrangements made for the Opening Ceremony. With the theme of “Combating COVID-19 Through Joint Efforts, Embracing Cooperation Through ICT and Digital Development”, this year of Cooperation is another important activity for China and ASEAN following the “ASEAN-China Year of Innovation” and the “ASEAN-China Year of Media Exchanges”.

At the ASEAN-China Online Opening Ceremony, YB Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin delivered a statement that highlighted the strategy that Malaysia through the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia has put in place in addressing the unprecedented impacts of COVID-19 in the country. YB Deputy Minister also underscored the importance of collaboration and cooperation between ASEAN and China to combat the pandemic and foster the recovery of all economies.

Representatives from all ASEAN countries and the relevant government departments from China attended the Online Opening Ceremony.
