Akamai’s Observation and Trends On Brazil Games 2016
The biggest sporting event that occurs every four years is already under way in Brazil. This may be the most-watched online event in history thanks to improvements in Internet connectivity, ubiquity of connected devices and rising consumer demand and expectations for online video content.
Working with more than 50 broadcasters worldwide to ‘live’ stream the games, Akamai is uniquely positioned to share observations on data and trends around games-related video traffic globally.
Akamai has also stated “Akamai delivered more video data in the first eight days of Rio than it did for all 34 days of London and Sochi combined.”
As the games continue to unfold, Akamai plans to publish near-real-time data to a microsite that will illustrate:
- Numbers of simultaneous viewers
- Average video bitrate delivered
- Maximum peak traffic
- Regional viewing heat map
