VMware Unveils EVO:RAIL in ASEAN

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, announced the availability of VMware EVO:RAIL™ for the ASEAN region through its Qualified EVO:RAIL Partners. VMware EVO:RAIL is a hyper-converged infrastructure appliance that helps IT organizations streamline the deployment and scale-out of software-defined IT infrastructure at the speed of business.

In partnership with Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, Hitachi Data Systems, HP and NetApp, VMware EVO:RAIL will be offered through these partners’ channels as a single SKU covering hardware, software, and support and services costs, with single point-of-contact support by these Qualified EVO:RAIL Partners.

Findings from the recent survey  conducted by VMware in March 2015 amongst CIOs from the ASEAN region revealed that 71 percent of CIOs acknowledged ASEAN’s importance as a contributor to global revenues by 2017, with one in four indicated that opportunities with the coming of the ASEAN Economic Community was a key reason. The findings also showed that 84 percent indicated the transformation to a software-defined enterprise is important for their organizations. The increased cloud adoption  in markets like Thailand and Vietnam, coupled with growing mobile penetration  of over 120 percent across the region, puts added pressure on businesses to provide speed, flexibility and a secure way of managing IT.

In an IDC whitepaper commissioned by VMware in October 2014 , the research showed the opportunity for businesses in Asia Pacific to avoid over US$92B in costs from 2014 – 2020 by leveraging a software-defined approach to managing IT. To help businesses in the region move towards the software-defined enterprise, VMware EVO:RAIL solutions offer the ability to dramatically simplify the delivery of software-defined infrastructure services by streamlining deployment, configuration and management through an initiative HTML5-based user interface.

Designed as a pre-integrated and pre-tested complete VMware software stack, VMware EVO:RAIL will enable IT to produce virtual machines within minutes of powering on the appliance, thereby responding faster to business demands, simplifying infrastructure administration and reducing operating costs.

With high mobility and increasing sophistication in the outlook and adoption of technology such as cloud, organizations in the ASEAN Economic Community are well-poised to reap the benefits of cost savings, automation and operational efficiencies from a software-defined approach to IT,” said Ron Goh, vice president and general manager, ASEAN of VMware. “VMware EVO:RAIL™ is a new building block for software-defined data center environments that takes the guesswork out of building, deploying, scaling and managing software-defined infrastructure services. Our customers and partners in ASEAN have been very excited about the immediate value that VMware EVO:RAIL offers them.”

VMware EVO:RAIL is aimed at use cases in the mid-market and enterprise segments, and  includes VMware vSphere®, VMware Virtual SAN™, VMware vRealize™ Log Insight™, and the new EVO:RAIL engine – all integrated with hardware from customers’ preferred Qualified EVO:RAIL Partner.

VMware EVO:RAIL will simplify appliance deployment, configuration as well as on-going management, patching and upgrading of the software. The appliance is ideally suited for use cases such as virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) as well as remote office/branch office for industries including financial services, government, healthcare, higher education, insurance, oil and gas, and retail. Based on VMware vSphere, the appliance can co-exist with customers’ existing VMware vSphere environments as well as serve as an on-ramp to VMware vCloud® Air™.
