Organizations to Continue to Focus on DevSecOps, Cloud and Mainframe in 2018

CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) Vice President, ASEAN and Greater China, Nick Lim shared the company’s top 2018 technology predictions and reiterated that organizations must put software at the core of the business in order to thrive in the digital economy. Enterprises can increase their success by focusing on DevSecOps, Software as a Service (SaaS) and mainframe innovations.

Below are the top three technology trends that CA Technologies predicts will come under the organization spotlight in 2018:

  1. DevSecOps is Gaining Traction

Digital security has become a boardroom-level issue. As part of that, DevSecOps will become mainstream and security technologies designed for developers will dominate the market. Security must therefore be part of the development process from the beginning, making it part of the entire DevOps lifecycle. DevSecOps enables the building, testing, security and deployment of software to be done quickly and efficiently. As this results in more resilient software, the solutions are also more resistant to hacker attacks.

Companies that embrace DevSecOps deliver better as they focus on collaboration and alignment across disciplines, bringing intelligence into this process where businesses are able to speed up delivery and boost the customer experience.

  1. Cloud Is Growing

Cloud computing can accelerate innovation and offer many benefits to organizations that require more agile and cost-effective ways of delivering IT services.

Wikibon is estimating that enterprise cloud spend will grow at a CAGR of 19 percent over the next 10 years. A much larger growth will be foreseen as established enterprises move to a more agile infrastructure to support a nimble, software-centric services business model. It is all about SaaS in 2018 for some of the largest players, with a bigger cloud spend.

  1. Mainframe Continues To Be Mission Essential For Digital Business Innovation

Mainframe services remain even more mission essential with the advent of mobile, API enablement and containerized applications. The mainframe has gone through a digital transformation of its own – from a platform that supports transaction revenue to one that has become a source of revenue growth and innovation.

The mainframe will continue to become more connected in the enterprise, through Lean and Agile to deliver new mission essential services. With the gaining momentum of AI and machine learning being pivotal to a company’s success, the mainframe is itself transforming from a system of records into a hub for systems of intelligence and intelligent automation in the enterprise. The traditionally trusted attributes such as speed, security and high availability and new capabilities of the connected mainframe will cement the mainframe’s position as a mission essential ingredient for business innovation in the digital economy.

Staying Relevant in the Digital Age by Building a Modern Software Factory

Customers will play a greater role in reshaping the business. As delivering a high quality, seamless digital experience to customers becomes the foundation of many businesses, the best chance to achieve digital transformation success is for organizations to build software into their business DNA.

Organizations need a Modern Software Factory to deliver superior customer experiences at unprecedented speed, scale and reliability. It is a framework through which customers can embark on their digital transformation – or reinvention of their offerings – to thrive in the application economy by putting software at the core of their business. The Modern Software Factory blueprint gives every organization the ability to create an agile business, build better apps faster, make security a competitive advantage and maximize application performance.

CA Technologies is expecting these four principles that anchor the Modern Software Factory to be greatly amplified in 2018:

  1. Respond to changes quickly through business Agility

Data and analytics will start to revolutionize Agile where continuous delivery models will expand and accelerate, and Agile will have an increasing appetite for data-driven insights. Data insights become integrated into an increasingly granular and fast-paced process for creating new value. This will all be driven by sophisticated insight-generating engines tied to real-time business and financial metrics.

In the future: The health and vitality of organizations’ software experiences and investments will be measured and even predicted in ways not possible before.

  1. Move faster with efficiency using intelligent automation

Automation happens today through continuous test, release, and business process automation. But to truly capitalize on automation, businesses will need to standardize and integrate workflows smoothly across the DevOps process and tool chain. Analytics will help find bottlenecks or weak spots in their automated software flows.

In the future: The future of automation is intelligence – it learns, adapts, and self-optimizes the entire system – and we will increasingly see software that is running development alongside and, in certain instances, instead of humans.

Improve the customer experience through experience insights

  1. Experience insightsleverage company data and apply advanced analytics to give businesses the knowledge to continually improve how customers are experiencing their goods and services. These insights can be used to react, respond, and make every customer experience better.

In the future: The core activities of managing, governing, and securing an organization’s technology will not go away, but they will become more efficient, automated, and intelligent.  This will help enterprises focus more of their energy on what matters – building new value to drive their business forward.

Anticipate and mitigate risk with end to end security

As software becomes the primary way that customers interact with brands, security is becoming synonymous with “trust”. Businesses will have to secure the entire value chain of their companies including data as well as their brands.

The ability to reduce threat vectors by both enhancing the intelligence of identity and driving more sophisticated analytics will improve, but so will hackers’ ability as machine learning and AI become part of the security threat landscape.

In the future: The same things that are at risk in the enterprise today will still be at risk tomorrow – data and business continuity. AI will pose new threats that the enterprise will have to cope with, and fighting AI with AI will become a necessity.

“The Modern Software Factory is one of the most important enablers of businesses. It is a way to sense, adapt, and respond to a rapidly changing world. Agile organizations are driven by software and they are customer-centric. They optimize the customer journey from product design through the entire customer experience lifecycle. The Modern Software Factory is able to ensure organizations to be built to change and can adapt to an accelerating digital world, which is a prerequisite for staying competitive in today’s digital economy,” said Lim.
