LG Awarded Most Popular TV Brand

LG recently won three awards in the annual CNET Asia Reader’s Choice 2011/2012 Awards. The awards are: Most Popular TV Brand, Bronze for the Best LED TV category with the LG 55LV5500 (55-inch LED) and another Bronze for the Best Smart TV Systems with the LG Smart TV.

The CNET Asia Readers’ Choice 2011/2012 Awards is an event that spotlights the most desired tech products across 167 products in 19 categories of 2010 favoured by CNET Asia readers. Three products from each category with the most number of votes were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively. Additionally, four new “Most Popular” awards were created to identify the most influential brands among CNET Asia readers in 2011. The winners were selected from more than 250,000 votes submitted over ten weeks.

“Winning these awards is an important recognition of LG’s continued growth and success in Asia in the highly competitive TV market, especially since these awards are based on consumer polls. In addition, being named the most popular TV brand of the year validates LG’s position as a leader in home entertainment solutions. These achievements underscore LG’s commitment to provide consumers with high quality electronics that are designed to deliver excellent performance and smart technology without compromising on style and design,” said HK Kwon, Managing Director of LG Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd.

LG 55LV5500 (Bronze Award for Best LED TV)

The LG 55LV5500 offers features such as web browsing and digital video recording on top of wireless A/V support.

CNET’s Philip Wong who reviewed the TV mentioned that he liked the overall natural colours and smooth motion of the LG 55LV5500. A major differentiator mentioned is its Smart TV capability promising a “point, click, control” experience using an optional Magic Motion.

In terms of high-definition (HD) content, it was noted that Blu-rays played back at 24fps had a distinctive film-like appeal without compromising subtleties, which was less fatiguing to watch than most razor-sharp LCDs.

Another feature that impressed was the panel’s revealing shadows and realistic skin tones. In the Game mode, graphics were crisp and smooth with no lag. The TV’s audio subsystem also fared surprisingly well for music, dishing out health stereo imaging, articulated dialog and extended treble.

LG Smart TV (Bronze Award for Best Smart TV Systems)

The LG Smart TV brings the best of the Internet directly to your TV. The LG Smart TV Home Dashboard makes it easy to navigate premium content, a Web browser and applications. CNET’s Philip Wong noted that at publication time, LG was the only TV brand with a motion-sensing controller for delivering a point and click user experience.

Pressing the Home button on the remote displays the home dashboard layout in four key sections: A live window at the upper-left corner provides users with uninterrupted TV and movie viewing. Right next to it is the premium content tab followed by the LG apps store. You can also access available media servers, recorded TV programs and an electronic program guide by selecting the right arrow. Lastly, the shortcut bar at the bottom can be customized to show your favorite online services, apps and Smart TV functions.

Users can also install free TV apps broadly categorized under game, entertainment, life (lifestyle), education and news/info genres. In addition, they can switch effortlessly between Facebook and Twitter via the Social Center function, while watching their favorite TV shows and movies at the same time. Multiple users are supported for allowing different family members to blog and chat on the big screen.

Besides the optional Magic Motion remote control, LG is throwing in free remote apps for both Android and iOS devices such as smartphones and tablets.
