Infortrend’s VMware Ready EonStor DS Solutions Now Compatible with VMware vSphere® 5

Infortrend®(Public TPE: 2495), the networked storage expert, today announced that its VMware Ready™ EonStor DS solutions featuring 8Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC) host connectivity are now compatible with VMware vSphere® 5. This indicates that EonStor DS systems have passed a detailed evaluation and testing process managed by VMware.

“We are pleased that Infortrend’s EonStor DS systems are VMware Ready™ for VMware vSphere® 5, signifying to customers that they have passed specific VMware testing and interoperability criteria and are ready to run in production environments,” said Sheryl Sage, Director, Alliance Programs, VMware.

Thomas Kao, director of product planning at Infortrend, noted, “Infortrend’s FC and iSCSI storage solutions are VMware Ready™. To ensure our customers can take advantage of the latest trends in datacenter virtualization, we have moved quickly to certify our EonStor DS systems for the recently released VMware vSphere® 5, being among the first storage array vendors to do so.”

EonStor DS systems are certified solutions with 8Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC)-host connectivity, including models featuring dual-redundant controllers and models featuring single controllers. These systems provide drive connectivity of 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s SAS and cover form factors ranging from 1U to 4U. They also include small-form-factor models supporting 2.5-inch disk drives and hybrid models offering FC and iSCSI connectivity in a single device.

The VMware Ready program is a VMware co-branding program for qualified partner products and is a benefit of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. With more than 2,000 members worldwide, the VMware TAP program works with best-of-breed technology partners to provide them a comprehensive set of VMware technical and marketing services, support, tools and expertise to deliver enhanced value to joint customers.

EonStor DS solutions is a SAN (Storage Area Network) product or it can be used as DAS (Direct Attached Storage).

The VMWare vSphere is a virtualization platform for building cloud infrastructures.

Its core purpose is to manage virtualized computing infrastructure known as virtual machines which is pretty much virtualized operating system.

The core two layers of vSphere are 1.) Infrastructure services 2.) Application services.

Infrastructure services are referring to 3 core components 1.) Compute, 2.) Storage 3.) Network

Application services are referring to 3 core components 1.) Availability, 2.) Security, 3.) Scalability.

It is actually an operating system by itself, providing a infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform-as-a-service(PaaS) product combination for the cloud computing arena.

Other products that are directly related to vSphere are 1.) vSphere Hypervisor, vCould Director, vCenter Server, vSphere Automation Tools vFabric Hyperic. All of which can be deployed collectively or individually on site. The vSphere is the foundation of all.

VMWare vSphere is a server-based product and it targets the data center industry and private cloud (for small business, SME and enterprise).
