Hitachi Vantara Claims 100% Data Availability in its VSP 5000

A major hardware announcement at Hitachi Vantara’s NEXT2019 Las Vegas is the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) 5000 series, its AI-driven data center operations solution that will redefine the term ‘Enterprise Storage’.

According to Brad Surak, Chief Product and Strategy, the VSP 5000 is designed to support data-intensive workloads that emerge through multi-cloud and AI-driven environments.

The VSP 5000 100% data availability at eight 9s’ (99.9999%) for any workload at any scale, the VSP 5000 soundly beats out all existing competition with its record-breaking 21 million IOPS (input/output per second), and easily scales to an unprecedented 69 Petabytes.

Apparently with the VSP 5000, resource-intensive applications can also expect to see a dramatic improvement with response times as low as 70 microseconds.

The VSP 5000 is a major advancement for organizations that are looking to modernize their data center. As the market to meet the demanding service-level requirements across a wide range of workloads and edge-to-core-to-multicloud deployment models.

At a press conference, Hitachi Vantara CEO Brian Householder said, “The VPS 500 was driven by the data company’s challenge to address the issue of massive data silos in data centers; as as well as to help organisations realize the potential of data which is their biggest asset.

“The VPS 5000 will accelerate data center workloads and deliver future-proof IT with a new, innovative architecture that is the ideal foundation for modernizing data center, cloud and DataOps environments. It is agile enough to store block and file data and supports workload diversity – from traditional mission-critical applications to containers, to mainframe. It enables all workload consolidation that maximizes operational efficiencies.”

The solution is the combination of 2 main components:

  1. Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) 5000 series, the company’s latest and the world’s fastest1 enterprise-class storage array
  2. Hitachi Ops Center management software with the updated Hitachi Storage Virtualization Operating System

The VSP 5000 series is designed so customers can start small and scale up as massively as they need, all while delivering predictable service levels including a 100% data availability guarantee for all VSP models including the new VSP 5000 series. Eight 9’s (99.999999); and synchronous clustering of applications between sites that are up to 500 kilometers apart (via the Hitachi’s Global-Active Device (GAD) in the event of a regional outage).
