Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, today announced the official launch of Interact, its new IoT (Internet of Things) platform. The prestigious event took place at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur where Signify showcased its Interact IoT solutions to government officials and business owners eager to adopt Industry 4.0 initiatives and systems driven by connected technologies.

During the event, members of the media as well as VIP guest InvestKL Chief Executive Officer Datuk Zainal Amanshah were given a tour of Signify’s Interact product and services showcase, which included several real world application and live demonstrations of Interact connected lighting in industrial, retail, city and commercial environments. Signify also highlighted several solutions to local government officials on how the Interact platform could improve and manage outdoor environments and road lightings.

“The recent launch of the Industry4WRD National Policy by Malaysia Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad highlights the country’s commitment towards the digital transformation of its manufacturing sector and related services,” said Alok Ghose, Chief Executive Officer for Signify in ASEAN. “Signify is ready to assist Malaysian customers in embracing the future of higher production efficiency, stronger digital talent pools, and greater cost savings through Interact IoT platform.”

Signify – Leader in Smart Connected Lighting

Philips Lighting has long been well-known as an established brand in Malaysia since the 1970s. With a firm footing in the country and continued growth as a global lighting leader, Philips Lighting changed its company name to Signify on 16 May 2018. The new company name originates from the way light has become an intelligent language that connects and conveys meaning. It is part of the company’s strategic vision and purpose to unlock the extraordinary potential of light for brighter lives and a better world.

Signify aims to be a part of the Malaysian government’s push towards preparing local industries and companies to adopt Industry 4.0 through policies such as Industry4WRD. The Interact IoT platform allows local businesses and cities to identify and maximise efficiency through smart, connected lighting. Interact’s highly scalable, cloud-based platform uses sophisticated and modern data management and data processing capabilities to create data-enabled services for customers.

In addition to its wide applications of services, Interact IoT platform allows customers to easily manage and remotely control user and device security, authentication, and authorisation for its connected lighting system. Its intelligent connected lighting utilises Open API to enable its lighting software and system architecture to share data back and forth between LED light points and embedded sensor networks. This creates useful real-time, historical, and predictive analytics, such as alerting store managers when products require restocking, or providing lighted indoor navigation for staff and customers in retail and office spaces.

One key industry that stands to greatly benefit from the Interact IoT platform is hospitality. Interact Hospitality offers real-time operational transparency across properties for enhanced guest experience through mood-enhancing lighting scenes in hotel lobbies, restaurants, and guest rooms, while the connected LED lighting saves energy and costs. Other key business verticals announced for Interact include Interact City for public space lighting; Interact Landmark for architectural lighting; Interact Sports for stadiums; Interact Retail for large retail and food stores; Interact Office for offices and commercial buildings; and Interact Industry for warehouses, logistic centres and factories.

Interact Projects in Malaysia and Across the Region

The new official presence of Interact in Malaysia puts the brand in a strong position where local customers will go to for their first steps towards IoT connected lighting. According to a joint 2H2017 Business Conditions Survey by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, 24% of FMM members has already implemented industrial IoT. The same survey respondents also indicate that industrial IoT is one of the top three technologies that they plan to introduce into their operations besides cybersecurity and cloud computing – both of which are main pillars of Industry 4.0 technologies.

In November 2016, the state of Malacca took its first steps towards deploying a cloud-based, intelligent street lighting management by installing 1,500 connected LED street lights, connected by Interact City lighting asset management software. This project allowed the heritage city to save up to 80% in energy costs as well as allow local authorities to control and monitor its new street lights remotely, generating new key insights into the city’s operations and resource optimisation. Several Malaysian landmarks, warehouses and public transportation projects are also primed for integration with the Interact IoT platform, such as the SETIA Spice landmarks in Penang and the Menora Tunnel in Ipoh, Perak.

Across the region, Signify’s Interact Hospitality has enhanced employee and guest satisfaction at Swissotel The Stamford in Singapore while nearly 150,000 street lights across Jakarta, Indonesia will be upgraded and connected by Interact City lighting asset management software. In Vietnam, the iconic Nhat Tan Bridge is regularly illuminated at night, turning into a work of art by Interact Landmark. Over in Perth, Western Australia, the Optus Stadium is powered by Interact Sports software to create the ultimate fan experience with spectacular light shows during all of its events.

As Malaysia continues to move forward as a tech-driven nation, more industries have expressed their eagerness to implement IoT systems as part of the global trend towards Industry 4.0 smart offices and factories. Investing in connected tech can even help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by serving as a potential employee recruitment tool. Over half of 5000 SME employees from five different markets surveyed by Signify indicated they are in favour of their company investing in smart lighting to make their workplace more appealing. 61% also believed that smart lighting would give customers and clients a more favourable opinion of a business.
